In this hands-on two-day workshop, expert cattle handler Vaughan Campagnolo will demonstrate low-stress methods of preparing cattle for showing in a school setting. Vaughan will use cattle that have not been handled previously and demonstrate the first steps in working with them, ensuring they are safe for students and staff to work with and setting up show programs for secure and successful outcomes. Held at the Showgrounds to build familiarity and confidence in the lead up to the Adelaide Show, the workshop will also cover preparing show stalls, tying knots, equipment required, biosecurity and paperwork, animal welfare, nutrition and more. Ideal for school teachers and other show team staff new to showing cattle or those looking to build their skills and update their knowledge. It is NOT a workshop for students.
On Thursday 4th April the afternoon's program will officially start at 1pm with Vaughan working with unbroken cattle. He will be on-site from 10am for those who are new to handling cattle for a behind the scenes "sneak peak". On Friday 5th April, commencing at 9am, Vaughan will demonstrate the progress in the cattle from Thursday and then the next steps.
Tea and coffee will be available both days. Morning tea and lunch on Friday 5th April will be provided.
For those interested, a booking for dinner on Thursday 4th April at the Goodwood Hotel will be organised, with the meal and drinks at your own expense. Please select the "Dinner reservation" free ticket option as well as your workshop ticket to indicate your intention to join in with this.
This workshop has been heavily subsidised by ATASA to ensure access to quality professional development for agriculture educators in SA, with thanks to the RAHS Beef Cattle committee and Livestock SA's Sheep Industry Fund for their support.
A risk assessment, detailed program and parking information will be distributed to all registered individuals closer to the workshop. For any queries, contact Sue Pratt (sue.pratt@agcommunicators.com.au).
